Established in 1976 Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Parish stands as a testament to faith and community. This vibrant parish in Lake Ridge Virginia has a rich history. It began modestly. Masses were first held in Rockledge Elementary School. The initial congregation numbered around 200. Father Philip Majka served as the founding pastor. He moved into the rectory on Crabapple Court in October 1976. The parish building committee met for the first time in July 1977.

High building costs delayed the construction of the main church. A temporary church and activity center were built instead. This interim church was dedicated in November 1981. The parish continued to grow. It expanded its programs and services. In January 1992 a new building committee was formed. Its goal was to plan and construct the permanent church building. A groundbreaking ceremony took place on March 21 1993. Sisters of Charity from Emmitsburg Maryland participated. Emmitsburg is the home of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton the parish’s patron saint. They brought soil to symbolically consecrate the site. During the excavation large quantities of rock and shale were discovered. This reminded the builders of the biblical verse “upon this rock you will build my church”.

The new church was finally dedicated on August 28 1994. This date is significant. It is the anniversary of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton’s birth. Bishop Keating presided over the dedication ceremony. Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton is a prominent figure in American Catholic history. She was a remarkable woman. She founded the first American religious community for women the Sisters of Charity. She also opened the first American parish school and established the first American Catholic orphanage. She accomplished all of this while raising her five children. Her life story is an inspiration to many.

Today Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Parish continues to thrive. It serves a large and diverse community. It remains a center of faith and fellowship in Lake Ridge. It is a place where people gather to worship. They also come together for community events. The parish’s story is one of perseverance dedication and unwavering faith. It’s a story worth remembering. A story that continues to unfold.
