Journey with me to a place where faith and community intertwine. We are standing before Saint Columba Catholic Church. This isn’t just a building. It is a beacon of hope and a testament to enduring values.

Saint Columba Catholic Church has a rich history. It was canonically established in 1960. The church stands as a testament to the Catholic faith in this area.

Initially, St. George’s Episcopal Chapel served the African American community. Later it became a mission of Saint Columba’s. Saint George’s flourished under Reverend Edward Douse. He was a Black Jamaican priest. He offered regular services. These included baptisms, confirmations, and adult education.

Over time, things changed. As the white population grew, the Reno community faced challenges. The city condemned the land where St. George’s Chapel stood. A school for white students was built. Despite this, Saint Columba’s grew. It benefited from gifts of land and money.

Saint Columba Catholic Church did not support the Reno community during condemnation. The church’s history includes reliance on labor from enslaved persons. This history has inspired the church to engage in public advocacy. They now focus on affordable housing.

Today, Saint Columba Catholic Church offers many services. Mass is celebrated multiple times each week. There are masses on Sundays at 8 AM, 10 AM, and 12 PM. Weekday masses are held at 8:15 AM. Saturday evenings offer masses at 5 PM and 7 PM in Tagalog.

Confessions are heard on Saturdays. Novenas are on Wednesdays. Eucharistic Adoration is also offered. The Rosary is recited on weekday mornings.

Saint Columba’s is an inclusive community. It welcomes all ages. The church encourages spiritual curiosity. It embraces the world with God’s justice and love.

Saint Columba Catholic Church is more than bricks and mortar. It is a living testament to faith, history, and community. It continues to evolve while honoring its past.
