In 1923 a church was established in Bondi Beach. It was initially located at Ben Buckler. It was called St Barnabas. This is the story of St Andrews Bondi Beach. St Andrews isn’t just a building. In the 1950s it moved to its current home on Wairoa Avenue. The land itself holds ancient history. Long before European settlement the Bidjigal and Gadgigal people lived here. They were part of the Eora nation. They lived and thrived on this land for tens of thousands of years. Their presence shaped this place long before any church stood here. Christianity arrived with the British in 1788. Churches were built as the community grew. St Mary’s Waverley opened in 1864. It’s a magnificent neo-gothic structure. St Matthews Bondi followed in 1889. These churches played vital roles in the area’s development. They served the community. They became essential parts of Bondi’s history. St Andrews Bondi Beach emerged from these roots. It’s part of a larger story. It’s part of a network of Anglican parishes. Since 2018 St Andrews has been part of the Anglican Parish of Bondi & Waverley. This amalgamation reflects a spirit of unity. The church at Bondi Beach launched in 2018. It aimed to connect with the community. It sought to serve the unique needs of Bondi. St Andrews Bondi Beach stands as a beacon of hope. It offers a place of worship and community.
