Consider Sai Lau Kok a recognized village. Sai Lau Kok is located in the Tsuen Wan District of Hong Kong. It might not be what you expect.

Sai Lau Kok Garden offers a green leisure space. It sits in the heart of Tsuen Wan. The Leisure and Cultural Services Department manages it.

The garden was redeveloped with a stepped seating design. This connects the upper and lower levels. You can easily get there from the MTR Tsuen Wan Station. Just use the connecting footbridge.

There is an activity room on the ground level. The Tsuen Wan District Office manages this room. If you are filming here you need to call 3515 5608. You will need permission.

You must apply before filming. Include information on the location, date, and time. Describe the activities, film synopsis, and scenes. List props, crew size, and equipment. Provide public liability insurance. Simple cases take seven working days. More complex cases can take ten or more working days.

Sai Lau Kok Garden was constructed in 1987. It covers 2748 square meters. Before redevelopment, its usage was low. This was due to a lack of direct access from the MTR station.

The redevelopment project started in November 2016. The goal was to “open up” the hidden garden. Before, it was surrounded by buildings and 2.5-meter walls. Architects removed the walls. They replaced them with 1-meter greening barriers. This created a more open view. It also improved air ventilation.

Half the garden was “raised” to create a podium garden. This connects to footbridges. It also provides direct access to the MTR station. A uniquely designed suspension footbridge links to Castle Peak Road. This allows direct access to a public transport interchange. Staircases facilitate access between the upper and lower levels.

The community requested more indoor venues. Architects constructed a multi-purpose activity room. They also added a covered multi-purpose venue. Inside, you will see an inverted glass cone skylight. This design highlight provides natural ventilation and lighting. It brings the outdoor environment inside.

Fair-faced concrete and Chinese kiln-fired grey bricks were used. Interior walls feature wooden slats. This creates a natural feel. High headroom facilitates natural ventilation. Glass and skylights reduce electricity consumption. Benches have handrails to assist the elderly.

The architects introduced green building designs. Nets with climbing plants increase shaded areas. Thirteen original trees were retained. Shrubs and lawns provide shade. The Sai Lau Kok Garden provides comfortable spaces. It injects new vibrancy into the community. It serves as a good place for residents to play and rest.
