A grand mansion stands before you. This is Sager House. It’s more than just a building. It’s a silent witness to Swedish history.

For centuries a structure occupied this site. The Sager family acquired it in 1880. They lived there until 1986. Leo Sager’s wife Vera was the last of her family to reside within these walls. Imagine family dinners lively conversations echoing through these rooms. The house then passed to the Catholic Church.

In 1988 the Swedish government purchased Sager House. They paid a hefty sum 45.5 million Swedish Krona. That’s about 77 million in today’s money. Think of the negotiations the paperwork the decisions made within those very walls.

Extensive renovations followed costing another 70.5 million Krona. A total of 161 million Krona was invested. The building was transformed. New floors were added. A mansard roof was constructed. The French Baroque Revival style was incorporated.

Goran Persson became the first Prime Minister to live in Sager House in 1996. He resided there for ten years. This impressive building boasts five floors covering 1180 square meters. The ground floor has a kitchen entrance halls and a small garden. State guests often grace the first and second floors. The top floors are the Prime Minister’s private residence.

Sager House stands between the Royal Swedish Opera and the Government Chancellery. It’s near the Riksdag and the Royal Palace. Its location is strategic. It’s a blend of historical significance and modern functionality.
