Here stands S.A.L.E.M. Immanuel Lutheran College a beacon of Christian education in Tai Po. Founded in 1983 this college has a rich history. It has transformed from humble beginnings to a modern institution.
S.A.L.E.M. Immanuel Lutheran College started as Immanuel Lutheran English Middle School. This earlier school operated out of a private mansion in Kwun Tong. The South Asian Lutheran Evangelical Mission ran it. Though small and with limited resources the teachers’ dedication made a big impression. The Education Department recognized their efforts. In 1978 the school was asked to become a caput school. Soon after it was invited to become an aided school. The transition was complete by 1982.
However the building limited further development. The learning environment needed improvement. The Education Department suggested a change. They advised phasing out the old school. They proposed starting a new school in the New Territories. Thus S.A.L.E.M. Immanuel Lutheran College was established.
Initially S.A.L.E.M. Immanuel Lutheran College only had S.1 and S.4 classes. Over the years it grew. It became a full secondary school with classes from S.1 to S.7.
Significant improvements have been made to the campus. A large-scale construction project added a new wing by the main entrance. This was completed in the fall of 1997. The new wing provided more rooms for activities. It also improved working conditions for teachers.
To keep up with technology a computer network system was installed. This connected all computers in the school. Multimedia projectors were placed in every classroom. A wireless local area network WLAN was also set up. This allowed teachers and students to use information technology freely. Today S.A.L.E.M. Immanuel Lutheran College boasts two Multimedia Language Centres. It also has two Computer Rooms a Multimedia Production Centre and a Multimedia Studio called WoW Production Studio.
S.A.L.E.M. Immanuel Lutheran College focuses on all-round student development. It fosters intellectual social physical and spiritual growth. To develop students’ abilities a Student Union was established in 1991. In 1995 four houses were created. These houses are Samuel Enoch Esther and Deborah. Students participate in house activities. This strengthens their social skills. It also inspires their potential.
The school’s mission is to provide quality education in a Christian context. It aims to create a healthy environment. Here students can develop their potential. They can excel intellectually physically socially and spiritually. They also prepare for life’s challenges.
The school motto reflects these values. It is Wisdom Truth Virtue and Love to all. This is expressed in Chinese as 博學明道 賫善益群.
The school logo has symbolic meaning. The cross represents the Christian background. The grid symbolizes Tai Po’s early stages. It represents a fishing net and pearl. The book with Greek letters Alpha and Omega represents Christian education. It references Revelation 21:6.

S.A.L.E.M. Immanuel Lutheran College divides students into four houses upon enrollment. These houses are named after figures from the Old Testament. They are Samuel Enoch Esther and Deborah. Each house has a representative color. Samuel is red. Enoch is yellow. Esther is purple. Deborah is green. Students are encouraged to participate in house activities. This builds social skills and encourages potential.
