“Did you know, this seemingly ordinary pond holds a story of unexpected origins?” We are standing at Rybník Barbora. It is a hidden gem in Prague’s Horní Počernice. Rybník Barbora is more than just a body of water. It is a testament to landscape evolution.

Rybník Barbora came into existence after 1869. This was a time of significant changes in the area. It is located on the Svépravický potok. This stream is a tributary of the Rokytka River. Rybník Barbora lies nestled between Rybník Obora and Rybník Eliška.

Observe Rybník Barbora’s shape. It stretches from east to west. The dam is on the west side. A path runs along the dam. Svépravický potok feeds the pond from the east. Then it continues westward to Eliška pond.

Notice the banks of Rybník Barbora. The north and east sides are meadows. The south side borders a forest. This forest is the Xaverovský háj Natural Monument. Rybník Barbora is part of the Klánovice-Čihadla Nature Park.

The pond covers about 1.13 hectares. It sits 246 meters above sea level.

Rybník Barbora is not suitable for swimming. However, Eliška pond nearby is used for swimming and recreation.

Getting here is easy. You can take a train to Praha – Horní Počernice. Buses also run to Na Svěcence or Svépravice stops. If you drive, you can park on Na Svěcence street. A blue-marked trail passes the south side of the pond.

Wheelchair users can view the pond from the dam. The path isn’t ideal for wheelchairs. Assistance is recommended.

So, Rybník Barbora offers a tranquil escape. It’s a place to appreciate nature’s beauty. It also showcases human impact on the landscape. It is a man-made pond that is now an integral part of the local ecosystem.
