Forty-seven million Czech crowns. That’s how much the revitalization cost. This is Rozhledna Sofie. Before you stands a testament to urban renewal. A metal structure once rusted and forgotten. Now a modern observation tower.

Rozhledna Sofie wasn’t always this impressive. This simple twelve-meter-tall iron structure stood unused since the 1980s. Located in Prague 12 Modřany it’s a short walk from the Poliklinika Modřany tram stop. A truly hidden gem. It stood near the Prior shopping center. Locals even nicknamed it ‘Modřanský Tarzan’ due to its precarious state. People dared climb it. It was a testament to urban neglect. A rusty symbol of a bygone era.

Then came the transformation. The renovation began in October 2019. It concluded in December 2020. The project was part of a larger revitalization effort. Architektura sro and architect David Kraus were responsible. They oversaw the stunning transformation of Sofijské náměstí. The result is this observation tower. It boasts forty-one steps. Seven and a half meters high. Twelve and a half meters tall in total. It offers a unique view. The view however is limited. It primarily overlooks nearby buildings. You see residential complexes. You also see the Prior shopping center. Large-format inscriptions adorn the square. Words like time freedom energy conversation unity and love stand out. You can also spot parts of the Radotínský Bridge.

The view is not expansive. But Rozhledna Sofie is more than just a viewpoint. It’s a symbol of renewal. It represents the transformation of a neglected area. It shows how a seemingly insignificant structure can be given new life. A rusty relic now proudly displays the flag of Prague 12.

So climb the steps of Rozhledna Sofie. Experience its story firsthand. See the result of a forty-seven million crown investment. Imagine the transformation. Then enjoy the limited yet intriguing view from this resurrected tower. It’s a glimpse into Prague’s past and its promising future. A metal sentinel watching over Modřany.
