“Look at that sculpture,” a child’s voice chirped, “it’s huge!” Right here before you, nestled amongst the apartments and shops, lies the Rodina – Fontána. This fountain, featuring a limestone sculpture titled “Rodina” (Family), isn’t your typical ornate city centerpiece. The Rodina – Fontána stands as a testament to a specific era. Built in 1985, its design reflects a more socialist realist style, a far cry from the Baroque and Gothic influences seen throughout much of Prague. The sculpture itself, crafted by Luboš Růžička and Václav Tůma, depicts a family. Imagine the sculptor’s vision as you take in the simple yet powerful form of a mother, father, and child united in stone.
