Did you know Rockville High School’s first graduating class walked these very grounds? Rockville High School opened in 1968. It welcomed its inaugural classes of freshmen and sophomores. They were a total of almost 500 students. The original building is long gone. It was renovated extensively between 2002 and 2004. Students attended Northwood High School during that time. The current building opened in 2004. It boasts modern classrooms. There are also updated computer labs. Multiple outdoor athletic fields are a huge advantage. There is even a football stadium named after the school’s first principal Joseph B. Good. The Zane Rush Auditorium honors the first guidance counselor.
Rockville High School is more than just bricks and mortar. It’s a place of vibrant learning. It offers challenging academic programs like the International Baccalaureate program. Advanced Placement courses are another option. Students can even earn college credit. Career-focused programs are available too. Project Lead the Way is one such example. There’s also Educorps where students intern. They help other students and teachers. Rockville High School’s journalism program is renowned nationally. Its student newspaper The Rampage earned numerous awards including National Pacemaker awards. The school’s student journalists even received press passes to President Obama’s inauguration. That was a unique honor.
The school has a rich history. It inherited a pipe band in 1984. The band originated at Robert E. Peary High School. Sadly the funding for this unique band was cut after the 2016-17 school year. Many students and alumni cherish their memories. They recall homecoming floats and the Ram’s Room restaurant. This was the culinary class’ adjoining restaurant. An invitation to eat there was an incredible honor. Rockville High School boasts state championship titles in various sports. These include boys’ soccer boys’ and girls’ basketball. Even boys’ cross country and girls’ volleyball achieved state-level success.
Today Rockville High School stands tall. It represents years of educational excellence. The school continues to inspire students. It prepares them for a global future. It’s a place where tradition and innovation blend. It is a true testament to the community it serves.
