“If You See Something Say Something” That’s the motto of the Rockville City Police Department. Right here before you stands its headquarters a testament to community safety.

The Rockville City Police Department RCPD isn’t just a police force. It’s a vital part of Rockville’s history. Founded long ago its story is one of evolution and adaptation. It started small. In 1972 it only had nine officers. Imagine patrolling a growing city with such a small team.

Through the years the RCPD faced many challenges. In 1968 it hired its first Black policeman Richard “Gene” Eugene Dyson a milestone in its history. The department also implemented innovative practices. It was one of the first in the region to use radar for speed enforcement. In 2011 they started using license plate reading cameras. A true commitment to progress.

The RCPD’s commitment to the community is evident. It actively works with the Montgomery County Police Department. It’s been CALEA-accredited since 1994 a prestigious recognition of its professionalism. Remember that 1996 Excellence in Community Policing Award? That’s a testament to its dedication.

The RCPD’s history is full of intriguing details. Think about the Burglary Prevention Unit formed in 1976. It was a collaborative effort to improve safety. Or the move to a new headquarters in 2012 a symbol of growth and modernization.

Today the RCPD continues to serve and protect. It’s a force of 92 members sworn officers and civilians. It patrols the city ensuring the safety of its residents. Its fleet includes Ford Police Interceptor Sedans Dodge Chargers and Chevy Tahoes. The grey and blue patrol cars are a familiar sight across Rockville.

The RCPD isn’t just about responding to emergencies. It’s about building trust and preventing crime. It’s about community engagement and fostering a sense of security. This building you see represents more than just law enforcement. It represents the heart of a safe and thriving community. So next time you see a Rockville police officer remember their dedication to the city. Remember the legacy of the Rockville City Police Department a legacy of service and progress.
