This picnic area is not that big. It borders Rock Creek. You will find ten picnic tables and a grill. There is also a hot coal bin. Tables may be spread out. Be ready to move them if you’re picnicking as a group.

Rock Creek Park Picnic Grove 9 can hold up to 75 people. However it is not handicap accessible. Unlike some other picnic areas, there is no covered pavilion here. There are also no restrooms on site. The closest public restrooms are at Picnic Grove 6.

Driving is easy. There is a medium-sized parking area. It fits about two dozen cars. However, buses can only park at Picnic Areas 1 or 24.

Planning a group picnic? You will want to reserve Rock Creek Park Picnic Grove 9. Reservations are needed from April through November. Reservations are in half-day slots. One slot is from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The other is from 3:00 p.m. until dark. December through March it is first-come, first-served.

Reservations cost $65 per time slot. You can book online at recreation.gov. Just search for “Rock Creek Group Picnic Areas.” You can also call 1-877-444-6777. The call center is open from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. ET.

Remember a few rules. Balloons are not allowed in Rock Creek Park. Amplified sound is also prohibited. That means no live bands or DJs. Also, alcoholic beverages are prohibited.

Before you book Rock Creek Park Picnic Grove 9 think about what you need. Picnic Areas 1, 6, 10, 13, and 24 might be better choices. They offer more amenities.
