Remember the last millennium? It was February 1996. The Hillsborough County School Board purchased eighty acres for a new high school. This land sat at Boyette and Balm Riverview Roads. Construction began in January 1997.
Riverview High School was born from community desire. Local residents wanted the school named after their home. On December 9 1997 the school board listened.
Meet Mr. J. Vince Thompson. He became Riverview High School’s first principal on January 20 1998. He met with future students that February. They chose black, royal blue, and silver as the school colors. The shark became Riverview’s mascot. The school board approved them on March 17th.
August 1998 saw Riverview High School open. The inaugural class arrived ready to learn. A legacy of excellence began academically, athletically, and artistically.
Riverview High School’s crest shows core values. These values are learning, unity, loyalty, and integrity. Riverview High School prepares students. They will enter a dynamic and diverse society. The school builds knowledge, skills, and character.

All juniors take the SAT at Riverview High School. This happens at school on Wednesday April 2nd. This helps students meet graduation benchmarks. It also prepares them for college.
Riverview High School’s Theatre Department is active. They present plays such as The Witch’s Princess. Performances occur in the auditorium. Students can buy tickets for $7. Adults pay $12 at the door.
Several notable alumni attended Riverview High School. Jahleel Addae played NFL football. So did Jahmile Addae. Andrew Barbosa became a professional baseball pitcher. Roderick Strong is a wrestler. Jacquian Williams also played in the NFL. Freddy Tarnok and Jordan Leasure are MLB pitchers.
