A breathtaking panorama awaits you. This is Rigiblick. Right here you stand at the upper station of the Rigiblick funicular. This isn’t just any funicular. It’s a Zurich institution. Since 1901 this funicular has been carrying passengers up the Zurichberg hill.

The Rigiblick funicular is one of only two in Zurich. The other is the Polybahn. The Dolderbahn was also a funicular but was converted to a rack railway. This little funicular holds a special place in the hearts of Zurichers. It’s not just about the ride. It’s about the destination. The view from Rigiblick is truly unforgettable.

Imagine the scene in 1901. Wooden cable cars carrying curious passengers ascended this hill. The city below was smaller then. The view still breathtaking. But less buildings. In the 1950s the wooden cars were replaced. Shiny red metal cars took over. Then in the late 1970s the line extended. The funicular grew by 80 meters. Today you see sleek blue and white cars.

This isn’t just a quick trip. The funicular has five stops. Two are terminal stops. Three are intermediate stops. This is unusual for a funicular. Most have just two. The ride itself takes only two minutes without stops. But each stop adds a moment to take in your surroundings.

The Rigiblick funicular transports around 600,000 passengers annually. That’s a lot of people enjoying the view. It’s a crucial part of Zurich’s public transport system. It connects to tram routes 9 and 10 and trolleybus route 33. You can reach Rigiblick easily using standard Zurich public transport tickets.

So take a moment. Breathe in the fresh air. Let the view of Zurich and the surrounding Alps sink in. You’re at Rigiblick. A charming spot with a rich history. Enjoy the vista. The view alone is worth the trip. You’ve earned it.
