Imagine the powerful voices rising in song. This echoes the dedication of the Righteous Church of Holiness to spreading the Gospel.
Founded on March 15 1949 by Elder William R. Vicks Sr the Righteous Church of God and Truth Association began with a clear motto. It declared “We Will Stand For Right”. This commitment has guided the church throughout its history. The Righteous Church of Holiness strives to maintain high standards of righteousness. It preaches the Gospel to save souls.
Initially located on 25th and Eye Streets NW the Righteous Church of God moved to its current sanctuary in 1951. The building has seen many renovations and improvements. Elder Vicks added the Fellowship Hall and upgraded the kitchen. His ministry was known for serving the sick and homebound.
For 40 years the Righteous Church of God broadcasted over Radio Station WANN in Annapolis MD. This ministered to those unable to attend services. Many found faith through this and the church’s outreach. Elder Vicks faithfully served for 42 years. He continued until his death on June 18 1991.
In 1992 Rev Nathan Butler became the pastor. He introduced new ministries. Under his leadership many were saved or rededicated their lives. Pastor Butler led a building expansion. This resulted in a new sanctuary equipped with modern amenities. The Righteous Church of God was ready for ministry in the 21st century.
On October 27 2024 Rev Anthony L Brooks Sr became the third pastor. He is a third-generation preacher. He followed in the footsteps of his grandfather Elder William R Vicks Sr. He also followed his father Dr Lincoln Brooks Jr.
Rev Brooks was licensed to preach in 1992. He was ordained in 1996. He has served the Righteous Church of God in many roles. This includes Youth Pastor and Assistant Pastor. Rev Brooks has preached throughout the Greater Washington DC Area and internationally. He attended Maple Springs Baptist College and earned a Master of Arts Degree in Pastoral Theology.
The Righteous Church of God recognizes the rights of the LBGT community. However the Righteous Church of God maintains its religious beliefs. These beliefs adhere to the traditional definition of marriage. This is one man and one woman. The church’s bylaws prohibit same-sex marriage ceremonies on its property.
The Righteous Church of God believes in the Bible as the inspired Word of God. They believe in one God existing in three persons. They believe in salvation through faith in Jesus Christ. The Righteous Church of God follows two ordinances. These are the Lord’s Supper and Baptism.
