“Rebirth and replant.” That’s the essence of Redeeming Grace Church’s story. The story began about 20 years ago when the community was known as Berean Bible Church. God challenged them to center everything upon the gospel of Jesus Christ.
For years they wrestled. They investigated the Bible. They sought help. They prayed. Finally in 2008, Redeeming Grace Church was reborn. The church joined the Acts 29 church planting network in 2009. This affiliation led to an influence by the Soma Family of Churches in Tacoma, Washington. Redeeming Grace Church began to rediscover the apostolic church seen in the book of Acts. The church became a family of missionaries. They dedicated themselves to serving the community in every way possible. They learned to be more like Jesus. Redeeming Grace Church hungered to truly live as a family and embrace their mission.
Redeeming Grace Church believes church isn’t just a Sunday event. It’s about the other six days and 22 hours. The church isn’t a building. It is the people living on mission 24/7. Redeeming Grace Church is not a church for themselves. It is for the community. Church planting is integral to their mission.
In 2010, Redeeming Grace Church decided to split into two sites. They sent 25 members north to Pacifica. This helped them minister to their Bay Area communities and start their first church plant. Leaders and members also joined like-minded churches in their neighborhoods.
Like any family, Redeeming Grace Church constantly changes. It sometimes grows and sometimes shrinks. In 2018, after sending members to new communities around the US and abroad, the Pacifica family members rejoined them.
Redeeming Grace Church values the Bible as God’s inspired Word. They gladly submit to its authority. The Bible guides them in faith and life. They apply biblical teachings through sermons, discussions, classes and personal study.
Redeeming Grace Church affirms the gospel is central. They dedicate themselves to Christ-like humility. They seek Christian renewal and reformation. They strive for acceptance rejecting sectarianism. They acknowledge their adoption into the Christ-generated community. Redeeming Grace Church commits to missional living. They are committed to social justice and mercy. Training and education are important for family, church and society. They expect the Holy Spirit to move among them.
Redeeming Grace Church seeks to partner with other Christians. They reach the city together. They believe in the Holy Spirit’s active role. The Spirit regenerates, empowers and fills people for God’s purposes. They believe all spiritual gifts are available today.
They are complementarian. Men lead homes and male elders lead churches with masculine love and service. Men and women are equal but uniquely designed by God. Redeeming Grace Church believes salvation comes only through Jesus Christ. They are ambassadors of God’s kingdom which will consist of every tribe, tongue and nation. They pursue freedom and redemption promised by Jesus.
Redeeming Grace Church proclaims a gospel of grace. It may sound like foolishness but it saves multitudes. The story of Redeeming Grace Church does not end here. They look forward to seeing how God will lead them in the next phase. They are broken sinners. They strongly believe they can help make their city a better place for all people.
