What kind of building has a roof like a tent? Look at the unusual roof of Råsunda kyrka. It’s not your typical church steeple, is it? Råsunda kyrka, perched atop a hill near Nackrosparken, is a fascinating blend of modern architecture and ancient symbolism. This district church, built in 1968, served as the parish church for Råsunda until 2007. Notice the warm, red brick exterior. It’s a distinct departure from the grandeur of older churches. Architect Georg Scherman chose this design to create a sense of intimacy and community. Look closer and you’ll see the roof. It’s a self-supporting structure of white-glazed wood. This design isn’t arbitrary. It’s a deliberate echo of the Tabernacle, the portable sanctuary described in the Old Testament. This connection reminds us that faith is not confined to grand structures, but travels with us. Inside, the altar, baptismal font, and pulpit form a triangle of Ekensberg marble. This visual representation of the Trinity underscores the church’s role as a sacred space. While modern in design, Råsunda kyrka is rich in symbolism, inviting contemplation and reflection.
