Established in January 1959, Randwick Girls High School has a rich history. The school’s origins trace back to 1883. At that time Randwick Public School was established. The NSW Government founded it.
Originally designed for 200 students, the school was constructed on Avoca Street. That was in 1886. Over time the school evolved. It became a Superior Public School in 1913. Then in 1944 it transitioned into a Junior High School.
A significant change occurred in 1949. The school split into separate boys’ and girls’ high schools. The boys’ school eventually moved further south on Avoca Street. Finally in 1959 Randwick Girls High School was established.
Randwick Girls High School has a tradition of excellence. It encourages critical thinking. The school supports academic rigor and creativity. Many graduates have excelled in various fields. Law, medicine, business, education, and the arts are among them. The school nurtures students in a caring environment. It promotes tolerance and cultural richness.

Since the 1990s, Randwick Girls has collaborated with Randwick Boys High School. They participated in the Rock Eisteddfod Challenge together. The combined team achieved numerous successes. They reached the finals in 1995. They became regular finalists. They won the Premier Division multiple times. Those wins were in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2006, and 2007.
Significant changes are coming. In September 2023, an announcement was made. Randwick Girls and Randwick Boys High School will amalgamate. The schools will combine into a single co-educational campus. The cost of this project is estimated at $42 million. The new school is scheduled to open in 2025. The new name will be Randwick High School.
Despite these changes, the spirit of Randwick Girls High School will endure. The school’s commitment to its students remains strong.
Several notable individuals have attended Randwick Girls High School. Tamsin Colley is a paralympian. Molly Contogeorge is a singer-songwriter and keyboardist. These alumnae exemplify the school’s legacy.
