Have you ever wondered what secrets lie within these walls? Right here before us stands the Radio Television Hong Kong Broadcasting House a place where history and sound intertwine. For decades this building at 30 Broadcast Drive has been the heartbeat of Hong Kong’s broadcasting world. It’s more than just a building. It’s a testament to Hong Kong’s vibrant media landscape.

In 1969 the Broadcasting House opened its doors. It was a state-of-the-art facility for its time. This marked a significant step for Radio Hong Kong. It finally had a permanent home a dedicated space to create and broadcast its programmes. Before this it moved between different locations. The move was a symbolic act representing growth and ambition.

But the story doesn’t stop there. This location became known as Five-Station Hill in the 1970s. Why? Because five different broadcasting outlets called this area home including RTHK. Commercial Radio Hong Kong Television Broadcasts Limited Rediffusion Television and Commercial Television all operated from Broadcast Drive. It truly was a media hub a central point for communication in Hong Kong. Imagine the buzz the energy the constant flow of information radiating from this single spot. The neighbourhood even benefited from the professional and upper-middle-class residents.

However times change. The land became increasingly valuable. Broadcasters began to relocate to larger more modern facilities. TVB moved to Clear Water Bay in 1988. ATV followed to Tai Po in 2007. Commercial Television’s collapse in 1978 led to a name change. The area became known as Four-Station Hill reflecting the reduction in broadcasting companies. The old Commercial Television building found new life. It became RTHK Television House in 1986.

Today RTHK and Commercial Radio Hong Kong remain on Broadcast Drive. However RTHK plans to move to Tseung Kwan O in the coming years. The legacy of the Broadcasting House and its surrounding area is enduring. It stands as a powerful reminder of Hong Kong’s broadcasting evolution. The building represents decades of stories shared news reported music played and connections forged. Radio Television Hong Kong Broadcasting House isn’t just a building. It is a living monument a symbol of communication and change in this extraordinary city.
