High above the Megalong Valley lies Radiata Plateau a place of breathtaking beauty and rich history. This remarkable plateau was once a radiata pine plantation. Now it’s known as Ngula Bulgarabang Regional Park. The name means very large forest in the Gundungurra language.

For 45 years the land belonged to private owners. They called it Invincibility Point. In 2019 the NSW State Government purchased it for 2.8 million dollars. This wasn’t just a land purchase it was a victory for conservation. For over thirty years the community and the Blue Mountains Conservation Society fought to protect this unique area.

Radiata Plateau is the last remaining undeveloped plateau in the upper Blue Mountains. It boasts stunning clifflines home to internationally recognised rock-climbing spots. It’s a significant Aboriginal heritage site. The Blacks Ladder an ancient pathway through the plateau descends into the valley below.

The plateau is home to incredible biodiversity. You’ll find rare and threatened species here. The spotted-tailed quoll the greater glider and the flame robin make their home among the trees. Rare Blue Mountain swamps thrive here too. Two threatened plants the Dwarf Mountain Pine and the shrub Leionema lachnaeoides grow only in a handful of places one of which is here on Radiata Plateau. An extensive network of walking tracks winds through this natural wonderland attracting bushwalkers and birdwatchers.

The plateau offers unparalleled views. The panoramic vistas are truly unforgettable. From here you can see the rolling hills of the Megalong Valley stretching out before you. The sheer scale of the landscape is awe-inspiring. Radiata Plateau is more than just a beautiful place. It’s a testament to the power of community action and the importance of preserving our natural heritage. It’s a place where history and nature intertwine. A place that deserves to be cherished for generations to come. So breathe in the fresh air and enjoy the beauty of Ngula Bulgarabang Regional Park.
