Gazing upon Queen of Peace Catholic Parish, have you ever imagined this land as a chicken farm? It’s true. This sacred ground in Greystanes, once a humble farm, blossomed into a beacon of faith for a vibrant community. Queen of Peace Catholic Parish, nestled seven kilometers west of Parramatta’s bustling center, has a rich history. Originally part of Wentworthville parish, Greystanes gained its independence in 1972. The church building we see today, a testament to the enduring spirit of the parish, was blessed and opened in 1975 by Cardinal Freeman. The name, Our Lady Queen of Peace, honors the Maltese parishioners’ deep devotion to the Virgin Mary. In 1996, the church underwent extensive renovations. Bishop Bede Heather solemnly dedicated the renewed space. Queen of Peace Catholic Parish has been shepherded by a series of dedicated priests. From Fr Terry Duggan, the first parish priest, to Fr Paul Marshall, each has left their mark. Fr Marshall, joined by Fr Akamadu and Fr Lam, leads the parish today. On any given weekend, Queen of Peace Catholic Parish welcomes around 1,600 people across its five Masses. The parish has evolved from a predominantly Maltese community to one embracing over 40 nationalities. This diversity enriches the tapestry of faith and fellowship. The parish grounds are home to not only the church, but also a primary school, a Catholic college (St Paul’s), and a preschool. This creates a unique learning and faith environment. Queen of Peace Catholic Parish hasn’t been without its challenges. Past abuse cast a shadow, but the community has emerged stronger through open dialogue and healing. The parish embraces programs like The Catholic Guy Ministry and Alpha, fostering leadership and spiritual growth. They strive to be a missionary church, reaching out and sharing their faith with the world. The parishioners and the strong sense of community are the heart of Queen of Peace Catholic Parish. A warm welcome awaits all who enter. Generosity of time, talent, and charity defines this vibrant family of faith.
