Established in 1963, Pui Shing Catholic Secondary School stands as a testament to community and faith. The Catholic Diocese of Hong Kong generously funded the construction of this institution. Pui Shing Catholic Secondary School initially served as a boys’ school. It offered classes from Form 1 to Form 3, with a total of eight classes. Interestingly, during its first two years, the school operated only in the mornings. This was because another Catholic school, New Asia Middle School, was under construction. Pui Shing shared its premises with New Asia students in the afternoons until their building was completed in 1965.

Pui Shing Catholic Secondary School’s motto, “Ming Tak Zhi Shan,” translates to “Illustrious Virtue, Utmost Goodness.” This motto is rooted in the Confucian classic, “The Great Learning”. It encourages students to cultivate their virtues and extend that goodness to others, ultimately striving for a state of perfection. The school’s four houses also draw their names from this motto: Ming (Ruby), Tak (Emerald), Zhi (Amethyst), and Shan (Topaz). Each house represents a facet of the school’s values and contributes to the vibrant school spirit.

Pui Shing Catholic Secondary School has a rich history. In 1966, the school achieved a significant milestone. It sent its students to participate in the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination for the first time. By the early 1970s, the school expanded to include pre-university levels, further solidifying its commitment to academic excellence. A major shift occurred in 1992. Pui Shing Catholic Secondary School transitioned to a co-educational institution. The original school building ceased operations in 1996 and was handed over to Caritas Hong Kong to serve as Caritas Jockey Club Lok Yan School.

Pui Shing Catholic Secondary School boasts a vibrant extracurricular scene with a wide range of clubs and societies catering to diverse interests. These include the Geography Society, Economics Society, Science Society, Computer Society, Mathematics Society, Music Society, Judo Society, Visual Arts Society, Drama Society, Film Society, and History Society. The school’s commitment to holistic development is also reflected in its involvement with organizations such as the Hong Kong Air Cadet Corps. Pui Shing Catholic Secondary School has nurtured many accomplished alumni. Their contributions span various fields, from media and culture to education, politics, and business. These notable alumni serve as an inspiration to current students. They demonstrate the profound impact of Pui Shing Catholic Secondary School’s education and values.
