Then came a significant shift in ownership. In 2016 Cadillac Fairview sold Promenade. The Serruya family and Liberty Development Corporation bought it. The Serruyas had a special connection to the place. They’d started their Yogen Fruz empire here. The purchase was more than just a business deal. It was a homecoming.
The mall faced challenges. The closure of Sears Canada in 2017 was a blow. Sears had occupied a huge space accounting for 20% of the mall. Bobby’s Liquidation temporarily filled the void. But the owners had a vision.
They submitted ambitious redevelopment plans to the City of Vaughan. These plans involved a major renovation. They included condominium towers and a mixed-use office hotel skyscraper. The plan is massive. It will transform the area around Promenade Mall.
The redevelopment is underway. Promenade Park Towers are rising. These three condo towers will feature 748 units in 30 and 35-story buildings. Phase one is complete. The towers are already almost fully occupied. The area is booming. The future of Promenade Mall looks bright. New businesses are moving in. Olive Branch Kosher Supermarket opened recently. GoodLife Fitness and Bowls and Blasters are coming soon. This revitalization is creating jobs boosting the local economy and strengthening the community.
