These habitats harbor rare and protected plant species, making it a significant landscape feature. The steep slopes of Přírodní památka Nad Mlýnem descend dramatically toward the valley road below. At the top, smaller patches of steppe communities add to the area’s ecological diversity. This landscape wasn’t always a protected haven. For centuries, much like the surrounding Šárecké údolí (Šárka Valley), it served as agricultural land, primarily meadows and pastures. This interaction between humans and nature shaped the composition of the vegetation, creating plant communities dependent on this type of land use. Now, hawthorns and the rock cotoneaster cling to the rocky cliffs above the Šárecký potok. Feather grass (Stipa pennata) thrives on the rocky terraces, and bloody cranesbill (Geranium sanguineum) adds splashes of color at the edges of the rocks and meadows.
