Before Presidente Dutra, travel between Sāo Paulo and Rio was arduous. A road built by the Washington Luis government existed. It opened in 1928. However, the new highway was faster and safer.
The Rodovia Presidente Dutra significantly reduced travel time. Distances shrank. Obstacles vanished thanks to advanced engineering. Travel time dropped from 12 hours in 1948 to only 6 hours.
Today, the Rodovia Presidente Dutra stretches 402 kilometers. It begins at Avenida Brasil in Rio de Janeiro. It ends at Marginal Tietê in Sāo Paulo. The highway passes through key cities. These include Jacareí, Sāo José dos Campos and Resende.
Since 1996, CCR NovaDutra manages the highway. They’ve improved road quality and safety. The Via Dutra had deteriorated before this. Potholes and poor signage were common.
CCR NovaDutra invested heavily. Emergency services improved. Medical and mechanical assistance became available 24/7. Monitoring and maintenance increased. A free phone service was established. Emergency telephones dot the highway.
