Nestled in the heart of Porirua City is Porirua School. You might think, “It’s just a school,” but this place holds more stories than a library! Porirua School is actually the oldest school in Porirua. That’s right! This unassuming building has seen generations of Porirua children pass through its halls. The school was first established back in 1863. Back then, it wasn’t located here on Awarua Street. Its original home was near the Barracks in Paremata. Then, it moved to where the bustling Porirua Town Centre now stands before finally settling in its current location in Elsdon in 1958. Today, Porirua School continues to be a hub of learning and growth. It fosters a strong sense of community and prides itself on being inclusive and welcoming to everyone. The school emphasizes building strong relationships, not just between students, but also with their families and the wider community. Porirua School is more than just bricks and mortar. It’s a living testament to Porirua’s history and a beacon of hope for its future.
