A lesser-known fact is the origin of the name Grey Ranks. It wasn’t chosen initially. It stemmed from an early operation. Poznań scouts distributed leaflets among German families. These families had been settled in the homes of Poles forcibly expelled. The leaflets were signed SS to sow confusion. The abbreviation was later expanded to Szare Szeregi Grey Ranks. The name became widely adopted.
