This is the Pomnik Pierwszego Boju Batalionu “Karpaty” Pułku AK “Baszta”, a monument commemorating the first battle of the “Karpaty” Battalion, part of the “Baszta” AK Regiment, on August 1, 1944, during the Warsaw Uprising. The inscription on the stone reads in Polish, “In memory of the fallen soldiers of the “Karpaty” Battalion, part of the “Baszta” AK Regiment, who fell on August 1, 1944, while defending the Warsaw Uprising.” The “Baszta” Regiment, which literally translates to “Tower”, was tasked with defending the south of Warsaw. This monument, along with others in the area, is a reminder of the sacrifices made during the brutal Warsaw Uprising. The uprising, a desperate last stand against German forces, lasted 63 days and resulted in the deaths of over 200,000 people.
