Did you ever hear of a terraced home providing refuge for almost 900 residents? Here at Po Ting Terraced Home in Tseung Kwan O, that’s exactly what you’ll find. Po Ting Terraced Home isn’t your typical housing development. It stands as a beacon of hope, offering transitional housing to those in need. It officially opened its doors in October 2023. The Christian Family Service Centre operates Po Ting Terraced Home. The project is part of a larger initiative by the Housing Bureau. It aims to bridge the gap for individuals and families waiting for permanent public rental housing. Po Ting Terraced Home is more than just bricks and mortar. It’s a community. It’s a stepping stone towards a brighter future for nearly 900 residents. Each unit, whether designed for one, two, or even five people, comes equipped with a private bathroom and cooking area. The construction of Po Ting Terraced Home was no small feat. The Housing Bureau granted a substantial $211.2 million to fund the project. Construction began in June 2022 and was completed in September 2023. Interestingly, the land upon which Po Ting Terraced Home sits wasn’t originally zoned for residential use. A special provision allows for this type of transitional housing for a period of five years or less. This flexibility is crucial in addressing Hong Kong’s housing challenges. Po Ting Terraced Home offers more than just shelter. It provides a sense of community. It represents a chance for residents to regain stability. This stability is invaluable as they navigate their journey towards permanent housing.
