In 1878, a beacon of hope arose amidst the shadows of Hong Kong. Po Leung Kuk, the Society for the Protection of Women and Children, was born. This organization, fueled by compassion, sought to combat the rampant abduction and trafficking plaguing the region. Now, fast forward to 1977. Right here stands Po Leung Kuk Wu Chung College, a testament to the enduring spirit of Po Leung Kuk. The college wasn’t always here in Heng On Estate. Originally, Po Leung Kuk Wu Chung College, then known as PLK No. 2 Secondary School, opened its doors in a converted government primary school on Sycamore Street. Imagine the transformation! From a primary school bustling with young children to a secondary school shaping young minds. The school’s motto champions benevolence, respect, diligence, and sincerity, emphasizing a well-rounded education. Po Leung Kuk Wu Chung College wasn’t just about academics. It instilled strong ethics, character development, and a sense of civic duty in its students. By 1990, the school had outgrown its Sycamore Street location. It relocated to its current spacious campus here in Ma On Shan, a move orchestrated in collaboration with the Education Bureau. Po Leung Kuk Wu Chung College continues to flourish, a symbol of hope and opportunity for generations to come. This institution represents more than just bricks and mortar. It represents the enduring legacy of Po Leung Kuk, an organization that has evolved from its humble beginnings to become a pillar of social service in Hong Kong.
