The campsite is perched on a knoll next to the Sheung Yiu Country Trail, overlooking Po Kwu Wan itself. From this vantage point, you’ll have breathtaking views of Sai Kung Inner Port Shelter. Po Kwu Wan Camp Site provides basic amenities, including barbecue pits, benches, and tables, perfect for enjoying a meal under the open sky. Keep in mind that the hygienic facilities consist of dry toilet pits. Water is available from a nearby stream, but this is a seasonal supply, so plan accordingly. One of the highlights near Po Kwu Wan Camp Site is the Sheung Yiu Folk Museum. This fortified Hakka village, built in the late 19th century, offers a glimpse into the region’s rich history. The village and a nearby limekiln were declared a historical monument in 1981 and restored as a museum in 1984. For those seeking more adventure, the Pak Tam Chung Nature Trail and Stage 1 of the MacLehose Trail are easily accessible from Po Kwu Wan Camp Site. Reaching Po Kwu Wan Camp Site is an adventure in itself. From the Sai Kung Bus Terminal, take bus 94 or minibus 7. On Sundays and public holidays, bus 96R from Diamond Hill MTR Bus Terminal is also an option. The journey begins at Pak Tam Chung’s Fuk Hing Bridge, the start of the Pak Tam Chung Nature Trail. Once you reach the Sheung Yiu Folk Museum, follow the signs to the Sheung Yiu Country Trail and hike towards High Island Reservoir for about 45 minutes. The walk to Po Kwu Wan Camp Site is strenuous, making it best suited for experienced hikers. But the reward is a secluded haven, far from the city’s hustle and bustle.
