From a bustling police barracks to a vibrant hub of creativity. PMQ has undergone a truly remarkable transformation. Here we stand before PMQ, a place where history whispers from the walls. PMQ stands as a testament to Hong Kong’s resilience and adaptability. Originally built as the Hollywood Road Police Married Quarters in 1951, PMQ provided housing for police officers and their families. Two distinct blocks housed these families, and a third building served as the Hollywood Road Police Primary School. This later transitioned into the Central Junior Police Call Clubhouse. By 2000, the quarters were vacated, and the buildings stood silent. Between 2005 and 2007, the Antiquities and Monuments Office meticulously assessed PMQ’s historical significance. This led to its designation as a Grade III historic building in 2010. A vision emerged. The vision was to transform these historic buildings into a dynamic center for creative industries. In 2014, that vision became reality. PMQ opened its doors, breathing new life into the historic site. Now, over 100 local design entrepreneurs thrive within PMQ’s walls. The space pulsates with creative energy, hosting exhibitions, workshops, and a vibrant community of designers. PMQ even boasts a new addition. The QUBE, a multi-purpose hall, connects the two historic buildings, Hollywood and Staunton. It symbolizes PMQ’s mission. This mission is to bridge the gap between designers and the public, connecting Hong Kong to the global creative community. PMQ is more than just a building. It represents the fusion of old and new, heritage and innovation. It is a living testament to Hong Kong’s ever-evolving spirit.
