Across the Neckar River stretches the Pliensaubrücke, a bridge with a story etched in stone and steel. The Pliensaubrücke isn’t just a way to cross the Neckar. It’s a testament to time, connecting the past to the present. The original Pliensaubrücke, known as the “Äußere Brücke” (Outer Bridge), boasted a series of medieval arches. Sadly, progress demanded its toll. The arrival of the railway and the canalization of the Neckar River led to the demolition of several of these historic arches. Today, only five of the original medieval arches remain, a poignant reminder of the bridge’s rich history.
