Is it possible to travel through the cosmos without ever leaving this spot? Here at the Prague Planetarium, the answer is a resounding yes. Since its grand opening on November 20th, 1960, the Prague Planetarium has been transporting visitors to the furthest reaches of space, all from its location in Bubeneč. The dome above us is a sight to behold, one of the largest on Earth, stretching 23.5 meters in diameter. Imagine the wonders it has revealed over the years! Inside, we find not one, but two incredible theatres of the cosmos. The Cosmorama, installed in 1991, stands as a testament to the ingenuity of Carl Zeiss AG. It is the last of its kind, an optomechanical marvel, still working its magic today. Then, we have the SkySkan Definiti, a digital behemoth installed in 2009 and later upgraded to boast the sharpest resolution in all of Europe. This system, with its six powerful Sony projectors, creates an 8K image that is so real, you’ll think you can reach out and touch the stars. But the Prague Planetarium is more than just a projector. It’s a time machine. It’s a spaceship. It’s a portal to the infinite wonders of the universe, waiting to be explored.
