Imagine Moses standing atop Mount Nebo. He saw the promised land for the first time. Pisgah Rock offers a similar experience here in the Blue Mountains. It provides stunning views of Erskine Creek Gorge.

Pisgah Rock is an informal lookout. It gives you a great view of Erskine Creek. The name “Pisgah” likely comes from the biblical Mount Nebo. Deuteronomy mentions Moses’ view from there. In Hebrew, “pisgah” means a high place. This Pisgah Rock is aptly named. It is indeed a high place with amazing views.

To reach Pisgah Rock, we’ll take a short bushwalking trail. The walk starts on the Nepean Lookout Firetrail. You’ll find a signposted track for Pisgah Rock. This is off the Oaks Firetrail. There’s a small parking area on the right side of the road.

The drive from Glenbrook is about 30 minutes or 13 kilometers. The road is mostly unsealed. It is generally suitable for all cars. Be aware the road may be damaged by floods. There’s a gate on the firetrail. It’s open from the first Sunday in October to the first Sunday in April from 8.30 am to 7 pm. During the rest of the year, it’s open from 8.30 am to 6 pm. Cyclists and walkers have 24-hour access.

The access road crosses a causeway. It may be inaccessible if the river level is high. Please check conditions before you set out.

From the Pisgah Rock track head, it’s a moderate 45-minute walk. The total distance is 1.6 kilometers. The track has gentle hills with occasional steps. Most of the track is clear. Some sections have branches and obstacles. Directional signs are along the way. Some bushwalking experience is recommended for a small section. Weather usually has little impact on safety. There are limited facilities. Not all cliffs are fenced.

Once you reach Pisgah Rock, take in the expansive vista. You can see right up the middle of Erskine Creek Gorge. Great views stretch to the left. Look down Erskine Creek Gorge. See across the flats of southern Sydney.

The lookout itself is not fenced. Be careful as the surface is uneven. Large crevasse-like cracks are present.

For experienced bushwalkers, the Tierney Track continues down to Erskine Creek. This requires some scrambling. You can return the same way. Alternatively, continue down Erskine Creek. Come up the Jack Evans Track to form a loop walk. Another option is to drive 1.8 kilometers further. This takes you to the end of Nepean Lookout Trail. The longer and steeper Jack Evans Track offers even more spectacular views over Erskine Creek.

Remember that parts of Blue Mountains National Park may be closed. This can be due to infrastructure upgrades or weather damage. Check for current alerts before your visit.

As you stand here at Pisgah Rock, consider the journey of Moses. From his high vantage point, he saw a land of promise. Here at our Pisgah Rock, may you also find inspiration. May you appreciate the beauty of the Blue Mountains. The rugged landscape is there for all to see.
