Opened in 1983 it was the first Disney Parks attraction in Tokyo. It’s a dark ride based on Disney’s 1940 animated film. The ride is an abbreviated version of the film. Pinocchio escapes Stromboli’s puppet show. He visits Pleasure Island ignoring Jiminy Cricket’s advice. Monstro the whale appears. Finally Pinocchio is reunited with Geppetto and becomes a real boy.

The ride’s design is a marvel. It uses cutting-edge technology for its time. Holographic materials were used. A handheld mirror shows boys turning into donkeys. The Pepper’s ghost illusion is used when the Blue Fairy disappears. Fiber optic fairy dust appears on the floor. The exterior is based on concept art of Stromboli’s theater. Boys enjoy rides brawls and junk food. Honest John and Gideon are there. Lampwick is turning into a donkey. The Coachman tries to trap you. Jiminy Cricket leads you past the docks where Monstro appears. You’ll return to Pinocchio’s village. The Blue Fairy appears beside Geppetto and Pinocchio. The ride ends in Geppetto’s workshop. Look for a Hidden Mickey in the final scene.
