“Building Together for God.” That’s more than just a motto here at Pennsylvania Avenue Baptist Church. It is the very foundation upon which this community was built.
Pennsylvania Avenue Baptist Church has stood as a beacon of faith for over 65 years. Its story began with a dedicated group of believers. They were committed to creating a spiritual home.
In 1957, the congregation celebrated a significant milestone. They dedicated their chapel. It was the first unit of the church. By then, the Pennsylvania Avenue Baptist Church membership had grown substantially. It rose to 265 members. The Sunday School also flourished. It reached an enrollment of 235.
The church expanded its footprint by acquiring the adjoining lot. It was located on the corner of 30th and Pennsylvania Avenue. The Seventh Day Adventists previously owned it.
Today, Pennsylvania Avenue Baptist Church envisions a “City of Transformation.” This ambitious plan includes various community enhancements. Senior and affordable housing are planned. Also grocery and retail establishments. The plan includes medical services and restaurants. The goal is to create a hub for spiritual, emotional, physical, and economic growth.
Pennsylvania Avenue Baptist Church wants to be the heartbeat of the neighborhood. It offers a place where children can encounter Christ. Also teens can find their first jobs. Furthermore parents and grandparents can live, shop, play, and pray within their own community.
In 2020, the church embraced the “Year of Divine Establishment.” It strengthened its online presence. This allowed Pennsylvania Avenue Baptist Church to connect with a wider audience.
The vision for the “City of Transformation” is bold. It requires faith and dedication. The Pennsylvania Avenue Baptist Church welcomes prayers and participation from those who feel called to contribute.
