The Pátio Tamanduateí didn’t always exist in its current form. Its story reflects São Paulo’s industrial transformation. The Pátio Tamanduateí is located near Line 10 of the CPTM. It is next to the connection with the expansion of Metro Line 2.
Originally, the area was part of the Tamanduateí River’s industrial district. As industries relocated, the land became available for new purposes. Recognizing the need for enhanced metro services, the city developed this area into what we see today. The project occupies over 7000 square meters.
The Pátio Tamanduateí serves as a maintenance and operational center for Line 2-Green trains. Here, trains undergo essential maintenance. This guarantees their efficiency and reliability. The location is strategically chosen. It improves the operational capabilities of the entire metro line.
Think about the scale. This Pátio Tamanduateí supports a vast network moving millions of people daily. The construction of the Pátio Tamanduateí carefully considered its environmental impact. By utilizing previously unoccupied land, the project minimized disruption to established commercial and residential areas. In September 2023, the São Paulo Metro signed a contract to expand the Pátio Tamanduateí of Line 2-Green. The agreement was established with Consórcio EESB-Tamanduateí. The companies Engibras Engenharia S.A., SAP Engenharia S.A., Benito Roggio e Hijos Sociedad Anónima and Eneplan Engenharia S.A. comprise it.
The investment is R$ 154.9 million. The expected duration is 40 months from the date of the service order. Construction sites are being set up. According to one of the companies that make up the construction consortium, the expansion is necessary to accommodate new trains. The company should receive these trains. They are necessary for the operation of the extension of Line 2-Green from Vila Prudente to Penha. Apparently, the new space should open space for around ten compositions.
The expansion includes five new tracks south of the existing yard. These new tracks numbered 12 to 16 will be accessible through shunting maneuvers on the north side. Access to existing tracks is via a tunnel. The tunnel connects the area to the train track between Tamanduateí and Sacomã stations.
