Wasn’t it in 1978 that the first seeds of faith were sown here at Parrocchia Nostra Signora Di Lourdes? This wasn’t always a grand church. It began humbly in a temporary space. A makeshift chapel. A simple building offered by the IACP. Think of it a small room. A place for mass. For prayers. For community. This humble beginning in 1978 was a far cry from the consecrated church we see today.
The Parrocchia Nostra Signora Di Lourdes stands as a testament to the unwavering spirit of a growing community in Altura Trieste. It was formally established as a parish on February 11 1983. It received official civic recognition years later on November 15 1986.
Initially services were held in a prefabricated chapel. Bishop Lorenzo Bellomi blessed this temporary structure. This was on October 9 1983. It served as a vital community center. A place of worship and welcome for many years. The true parish life started officially on December 4 1983. The faithful gathered. They built their community. They shared their faith in that small space.
Years passed. The community grew. The need for a more permanent structure became apparent. Architects Paolo Gasparini Giulio Marchi and Mario Dolce were tasked with a momentous project. They designed a beautiful new church. Bishop Eugenio Ravignani consecrated this stunning new church and its altar. This special event took place on December 17 2000.
Parrocchia Nostra Signora Di Lourdes has always been more than just bricks and mortar. It has been a place of solace. A haven. A place where people found comfort. It’s a place that still brings people together. Consider the recent change of pastors. It has caused some unrest among the faithful. Yet the church perseveres. Faith remains.
Don Giuseppe Colombo now leads the parish. He follows in the footsteps of Don Cristiano Verzier who is now at Cattinara Hospital. The change was unexpected. It generated some discussion. But the church. The community. It continues to thrive. The doors of Parrocchia Nostra Signora Di Lourdes remain open to all. It offers a place of peace and prayer in the heart of Trieste. A place where faith shines brightly.
