“What’s in a name?” you might ask. Well, the name Parque Regional da Criança Palhaço Estremilique tells a very special story. This park is more than just a green space. It is a tribute to a beloved clown.

The Parque Regional da Criança Palhaço Estremilique wasn’t always a park. Back in 1921 it was Haras Jaçatuba. It was a place for breeding English thoroughbred horses. Fast forward to 1979. The city decided to transform the area into a park. It would be a space for everyone to enjoy.

But who was Palhaço Estremilique? The park’s full name honors Tobias Fernandes. He was a famous clown in the region. He regularly performed and brought joy to many. His original clown name was “Carrapatinho”. But one day, during a performance, he did a bit where he trembled. A child exclaimed “Olha como ele treme, parece que está com Estremilique”. It means “Look how he trembles, it looks like he has the shivers”. Tobias liked it. He adopted Estremilique as his stage name.

The Parque Regional da Criança Palhaço Estremilique officially opened in 1980. It spans over 31000 square meters. Inside, you will find plenty of attractions. There is a playground one of the largest in the region. It has diverse toys all well-maintained.

The park has some unusual features. A maze awaits those who are ready to get lost and find their way. A wide green area provides space for picnics and walks. The park also provides essential facilities such as restrooms and baby changing stations. There are tennis courts and fitness equipment available too.

Keep an ear out for a whistling sound. It comes from the park’s miniature train. On Saturdays you can take a ride on it. There is also a pet park for your furry friends. The Pet Park has plenty of space and toys for your pets.

The Escola Municipal de Iniciação Artística Aron Feldman is also located here. It was established in 1990. It offers courses in ceramics, visual arts, music, dance, and theater.

Before you leave take a moment to appreciate this space. The Parque Regional da Criança Palhaço Estremilique is a place where nature art and recreation come together. It is a place where the spirit of Palhaço Estremilique lives on.
