Established in 1992 Parow High School stands proudly. It’s a testament to the merger of two schools. J J du Preez High School and Tygerberg Commercial High School joined forces. This created a strong united institution. The school’s location in Parow-Oos is significant. It allowed for the preservation of local traditions. The new school adopted the name Parow High School. This was fitting as J J du Preez High School was once Parow District High School. The amalgamation in 1991 wasn’t merely about combining resources. It was a conscious effort to blend the unique histories of both schools. The decision to use the Tygerberg Commercial High School site was practical. Its facilities were more modern and suitable. Mr PT Theron led Parow High School as its first principal. He guided over 800 learners and 52 teachers. The new school carefully incorporated elements from both predecessors. This included the uniform badge and rules. New elements were added reflecting Parow High School’s fresh start. The school’s badge is unique. It blends symbols and colours from the original schools. It’s heraldically correct and registered preventing unauthorized use. Two fleur-de-lis represent the Iris flower. The chevron signifies progress. The star symbolizes light. The colours black and turquoise reflect the original schools’ heritage. The motto Superare Possumus meaning So we can transcend is in Latin. This makes it suitable for a dual-medium school. Parow High School’s vision is excellence. Parents learners and educators should feel pride in the school. The goal is to develop well-rounded young people. The school values respect responsibility trustworthiness and care. It emphasizes citizenship faith fairness and the importance of a strong community. The school song proudly celebrates its location and heritage. Its lyrics reflect the school’s commitment to service leadership and faith. In 2023 Parow High School served 1181 learners. Fifty-one dedicated educators maintained a student-teacher ratio of 23:1. A specific uniform policy is in place. Grade 8 to 11 learners must use the official Parow schoolbag. Grade 12 learners must use a black Karrimore bag. This is one small detail that reveals Parow High School’s commitment to its identity and traditions. Its commitment to education shines through in its history and continuing evolution. Parow High School is more than just a school it’s a vibrant community.
