The scent of eucalyptus hangs heavy in the air a fragrant memory of the past. This is Paróquia São Luís Montfort.

Before you stands a testament to faith community and resilience. Paróquia São Luís Montfort wasn’t always the beautiful church you see today. Its story begins in 1964 on a vast fazenda owned by Seu Prado. He envisioned a community not just a farm.

Seu Prado hired Carlos and Isabel Moradei a couple of real estate agents from Mooca. They transformed the land. It was a place of stones eucalyptus trees and a pure stream. Isabel a devoted follower of Saint Jude Thaddeus donated land for a small cruzeiro a roadside cross. This humble beginning would one day become Paróquia São Luís Montfort.

Families arrived drawn by the promise of land and community. In July 1966 Father Otávio from the Nossa Senhora da Conceição parish in Jaraguá visited the burgeoning neighborhood. He celebrated the first masses on a simple lambreta scooter. He gathered the residents for prayer under the open sky.

Father Humberto a Monfortine missionary from the Netherlands arrived in 1969. He found a neighborhood lacking basic amenities. Families shopped in Parada de Taipas relying on local Japanese stores. Yet the Jardim Rincão possessed a unique beauty hills covered in rocks and eucalyptus trees planted by the Branco family. These trees became so plentiful that early masses were held under makeshift shelters or in Dona Elena’s home. Father Humberto embraced the eucalyptus making it a symbol of Jardim Rincão. His nickname became Father Construção Father Construction because of his tireless work.

From 1969 onward Jardim Rincão became a hive of activity. Father Humberto along with Deraldino and their team built a community. They worked on everything from water lines to the first daycare center a sports court the church and a community hall. They built a kingdom of God spreading the good news to every family.

Father Humberto had a special place in his heart for children. He organized exciting games and introduced new music dances and catechism activities. He took children on trips to rural São Paulo renting buses or taking them by train for vacations with families. He always made sure to give out treats after mass. His legacy wasn’t just in what he built but who he was a man of values deeply connected to the neighborhood.

Paróquia São Luís Montfort is more than just a building. It is a living testament to a community’s spirit. It’s a place where faith hope and love have grown side-by-side amidst stones eucalyptus trees and the echoes of Father Humberto’s laughter. It is a symbol of perseverance faith and the unwavering strength of a community built on a simple roadside cross. This is Paróquia São Luís Montfort a place where history lives and breathes.
