Founded on October 17 1967 the Paróquia São Gabriel da Virgem Dolorosa stands proudly. It’s a testament to faith built in the heart of São Paulo. Dom Angello Rossi initiated its creation. Dom Paulo Evaristo Arns solemnly inaugurated it on November 3 1967. He appointed the Reverend Father Ernesto Cadore as its first parish priest. Father Cadore served from 1967 to 1983. He was a young priest from Erickim Rio Grande do Sul. He left his position as chaplain at Hospital do Cajuru in Curitiba Paraná. He dedicated himself fully to the parochial context of the Archdiocese of São Paulo.
The Paróquia São Gabriel da Virgem Dolorosa isn’t just a building. It’s a living community. It’s a place where generations have found solace and spiritual guidance. Many priests have served here since its founding. Father José Vieira Moraes followed Father Cadore. He served from 1983 to 1994. Father Adailton Jose dos Santos served briefly from 1994 to 1996. Then Father Geremias Gomes dos Santos led the parish from 1997 to 2006. On January 6 2007 Dom Joaquim Justino Carreira appointed Father Zacarias Jose de Carvalho Paiva. Father Paiva remains the parish priest to this day.
The Paróquia São Gabriel da Virgem Dolorosa is more than just its history. It’s about the people. The community actively participates in five dimensions of pastoral work. These are biblical-catechetical liturgical-sacramental social and charity movements and associations youth and vocational. Over 400 lay people are involved. Two communities and an evangelization nucleus are part of the parish. The São Paulo da Cruz Community founded in 1994 has its own building. It is located in Jardim Joamar. The Nossa Senhora do Rosário Community is in Bortolândia. The Bom Pastor Evangelization Nucleus also contributes to the parish’s vibrancy. The parish also benefits from the presence of Deacon Geraldo Aparecido Braga.
The Paróquia São Gabriel da Virgem Dolorosa celebrates its patron saint’s feast day on February 27. It’s a special day of celebration and reflection.
