“A parish in every neighborhood.” That was the inspiring motto behind the creation of Paróquia Santa Rita de Cássia. This church stands as a testament to faith and community spirit.

Let’s delve into the story of this beautiful church. The story began with the dreams of local Catholic families. They desired a place of worship right here in their Mirandópolis neighborhood of São Paulo.

In April 1958, a dedicated commission formed. Bishop Paulo Rolim Loureiro authorized it. Their mission was ambitious. They had to acquire land and build a new church. Bishop Loureiro showed a special fondness for this parish. His apostolic zeal fueled the growth of churches throughout São Paulo. He truly believed in “a parish in every neighborhood”.

Initially, Father Xavier Schmaderes provided spiritual guidance. He belonged to the Igreja Santa Terezinha do Bosque da Saúde. He tirelessly nurtured the spiritual lives of Mirandópolis residents.

Families gathered in homes for worship. They celebrated Mass together. Soon a temporary chapel was erected. It stood on Avenida Senador Casemiro da Rocha near the land acquired for the permanent church.

A significant event occurred on April 12, 1959. The cornerstone of the new church was laid. Later Father Ezio, chaplain of Carmelo, replaced Father Xavier. Then, Canon Olavo Braga Scardigno took over. He began religious services in the temporary chapel under Bishop Paulo’s guidance.

May 22, 1960 marked a pivotal moment. Cardinal Carlos Carmelo de Vasconcelos Motta issued a decree. In a solemn open-air Mass, Paróquia Santa Rita de Cássia was officially established. Bishop Paulo Rolim Loureiro was present along with authorities, priests, commission members and many faithful people. Canon Olavo Braga Scardigno became its first Vicar.

The community continued to build. By December 24, 1960, José Silva Araújo led the commission. Engineer Ayrton Iabutti oversaw the construction. Canon Olavo inaugurated the Parish Hall. It was built to support the upper floor of the Church.

Today Paróquia Santa Rita de Cássia stands proudly. It continues to serve as a spiritual home for the community. Its history reflects the dedication and vision of those who brought it to life. This church is more than just a building. It is a symbol of faith, unity and the enduring power of a shared dream.
