Stepping through time, let’s journey back to 1938. A humble wooden chapel stood on this very spot, dedicated to Saint Catherine of Alexandria. It marked the inauguration of Paróquia Santa Catarina de Alexandria. The first confirmation ceremony took place in this early structure. The Bishop of Sorocaba, Dom José Carlos de Aguirre, presided over the event. Paróquia Santa Catarina de Alexandria has grown significantly since its humble beginnings. The current church building wasn’t inaugurated until 1954. It stands as a testament to the enduring faith of the community. The construction process wasn’t easy. The project faced a financial setback in 1950. Thanks to the generosity of the people of Tapiraí, Piedade, and friends from other cities, construction resumed in 1953. The new Paróquia Santa Catarina de Alexandria church was finally inaugurated on March 29, 1954. Imagine the scene. Bishop Aguirre returned to bless the new building. He was joined by several priests, including Father Jorge Misizzano, Father Guilherme Hoevel, Father Jerônimo Ônuma, and Father Jayme Jakules. Paróquia Santa Catarina de Alexandria officially became a parish on January 28, 1961. Bishop Aguirre appointed Father Guilherme Hoevel as the first parish priest. Today, Paróquia Santa Catarina de Alexandria serves as a vibrant spiritual center. It offers mass, confessions, and other sacraments. Mass is held twice daily on weekdays at 7:00 am and 7:30 pm. Saturday mass is at 6:00 pm. On Sundays, you can attend mass at 7:30 am, 9:30 am, 11:30 am, and 6:00 pm. The church is open for visits from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. On Saturdays, the church is open from 8:00 am to noon. Paróquia Santa Catarina de Alexandria is located at Rua Dr. Djalma Pinheiro Franco, 63. It continues to be a beacon of faith for the community. It honors its patron saint, Saint Catherine of Alexandria.
