However, a document from 1858 refers to the chapel as already independent. An even older document, dating back to 1857, mentions the Provisão do Oratório for the Fazenda Correnteza. This makes it the oldest documented link to the parish’s history. By 1929, the devotion to Saint Barbara was formally recognized. Bishop Ranulfo consecrated the main altar, the first in the diocese to honor Saint Barbara. This altar holds relics of Saint Honoratus, Saint Valentine, and Saint Vital, adding another layer of sacred history to Paróquia Santa Bárbara.
