Could a church built for Americans become a spiritual haven for Brazilians? Here at Paróquia Nossa Senhora Mãe de Deus in São Paulo, that’s exactly what happened. Paróquia Nossa Senhora Mãe de Deus initially served the American faithful living in São Paulo. As the years passed, the church’s role shifted. It became clear that the growing Jardim Paulista neighborhood needed its own spiritual center. Recognizing this, Archbishop Agnelo Rossi established Paróquia Nossa Senhora Mãe da Igreja on April 17, 1966. The first pastor, Reverend Tomaz Brown, took the reins under the guidance of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate (OMI). The Oblates nurtured the Paróquia Nossa Senhora Mãe de Deus for many years. Then, on April 10, 1980, the Archdiocese of São Paulo assumed responsibility. A succession of dedicated priests served the parish. These included Cônego Dagoberto Boim, Father Tarcísio Justino Loro, Father Juan Manuel Fernandez Martinez, Father José Rodolpho Perazzolo, Cônego Pe. Severino Martins da Silva Filho, Cônego José Pedro dos Santos, Father Paulo Roberto Guimarães, and Father José Edivaldo de Melo. In October 2021, Father Everton Fernandes Moraes became the parish priest of Paróquia Nossa Senhora Mãe de Deus. From its inception, Paróquia Nossa Senhora Mãe de Deus has offered a variety of services. They have several pastoral programs, movements, and services. A special emphasis is placed on catechism for children, youth, and adults. The church also provides care for the sick, Bible study, and baptismal and marriage preparation. Paróquia Nossa Senhora Mãe de Deus is a vibrant hub of faith. Daily and weekend masses are offered at various times. Confession is available daily. Baptisms and weddings are also celebrated, accommodating the spiritual needs of the community.
