Parkland Magnet Middle School serves students in grades 6 through 8. The school is located in Rockville Maryland. It is part of the Montgomery County Public Schools system. Parkland provides rigorous math and science programs. These programs meet the problem-solving demands of aerospace. They also cover robotic engineering.

Alyna Raynovich is the Science Magnet Content Specialist at Parkland Magnet. She uses CoderZ to enhance learning. CoderZ is a gamified online learning platform. Parkland Magnet Middle School offers unique science and aerospace curriculum. The accelerated curriculum allows students to take Honors Physics in Grade 8. Science courses align with magnet themes. They include real investigations and guest scientists. Students complete a yearly independent research project.

Sixth graders explore “Mission Planet Earth”. They study life on Earth and its requirements. Students learn about interactions of living things. They examine human impact on Earth’s environment. Sixth graders also delve into “Comparative Planetology & Orbital Mechanics”. They compare planets to Earth. Students study Aeronautics rocketry and Newton’s Laws.

Seventh graders study “Human Space Exploration and Survival”. They learn about cell biology and human body systems. They explore the effects of space travel on the body. Seventh graders also explore “Unmanned Space Exploration”. They study star chemistry and solar system explorations. They learn how astronomers use the electromagnetic spectrum.

Eighth graders can take Honors Physics and Honors Geometry. They also study Aerospace Design & Technology. Electives include Astronomy & Space Exploration and Research in Astronomy. Principles of Flight is available for 7th and 8th graders. Robotics electives cover Introduction to Robotics Systems and Applied Robotic Engineering. Students can take Introduction to Engineering Design in Grade 8.

Parkland Magnet Middle School offers many extracurricular activities. Students can join Civil Air Patrol or Math Team. They can participate in Destination Imagination. There is also First Lego League and a Robotics Club. Other options include STEM Club Homework Club and Builders Club. Jazz Band Drama Club and Student Government Association provide more opportunities. The school has a Spirit Squad and athletics.
