Standing before Parco San Giuliano, can you imagine the transformation? Once a barren wasteland, filled with industrial sludge and urban waste, it’s now a vibrant green space, a haven for nature and recreation.

This large urban park, overlooking the lagoon, is a testament to human ingenuity and dedication to environmental restoration. In 1990, a competition launched the process of revitalizing the area. Architect Antonio de Mambro won the competition, and the first two phases of the project were completed in 2003. The park was officially opened to the public in 2004.

The area, known as Punta San Giuliano, used to be a swamp. It was a barrier between Mestre and Venice. The park was envisioned as a bridge between the mainland and the lagoon, connecting the two. Today, visitors can walk across the Ponte Europa, linking the neighborhood of San Giuseppe to the park, as they wander its green paths.

The park consists of 74 hectares, divided into a variety of areas. Visitors can enjoy the green spaces, the recreational areas, the ski circuit, and the sports stadium. It is a testament to the interconnectedness of nature and urban life. The park is also home to a rich diversity of bird species, including owls, pheasants, magpies, and many more, creating a vibrant symphony of avian life.

So, as you explore the park, take a moment to breathe in the fresh air, appreciate the beauty of the surrounding nature, and marvel at the sheer scale and ambition of this project. It is a reminder that even seemingly desolate spaces can be transformed into something truly beautiful and beneficial.
