A cornerstone’s quiet story. That’s what this place whispers. The Parafia sw Jozefa Oblubienca Najswietszej Maryi Panny in Konstancin-Jeziorna. Its story begins not with grand pronouncements but with a simple act of faith. In 1905 Father Wincenty Tymieniecki a priest from nearby Slomczyn had a vision. He saw a church for the paper mill workers of Jeziorna. A humble sanctuary on the factory grounds. It would be called Mirkow.
This wasn’t just a building project. It was a testament to community. Fifty-two people joined the building committee. Donations poured in. Workers and residents alike contributed. The paper mill’s director Edward Natanson provided crucial financial support. On May 20 1907 the cornerstone was laid. Two years later in 1909 the church stood. A neogothic masterpiece designed by Hugo Kuder. It wasn’t yet a parish church though but a filial church. Priests from Slomczyn traveled to conduct Sunday services.
The Parafia sw Jozefa Oblubienca Najswietszej Maryi Panny blossomed. In 1930 the Warsaw Metropolitan Curia appointed Father Stanislaw Pancer as the first rector. The church saw its first electric lights that Christmas. Five years earlier two American Union stoves from Warsaw had started to warm the interior. In 1931 Bishop Stanislaw Gall consecrated the altar of St Joseph. It was a work of art by Antoni Bogaczyk a Warsaw sculptor. Four years earlier the church acquired fourteen Stations of the Cross. There was also a new processional brass cross. Father Ryszard Paciorkowski another rector installed two confessionals just before World War II.
The war passed relatively peacefully. Sadly many parishioners gave their lives for Polish freedom. In 1949 Bishop Zygmunt Choromanski consecrated three new bells. They were named Jan Waclaw and Wincenty. The pivotal moment for the Parafia sw Jozefa Oblubienca Najswietszej Maryi Panny arrived in 1957. Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski elevated it to an independent parish. Father Jaroslaw Zaleski the church’s rector became its first parish priest. Primate of the Millennium Cardinal Wyszynski himself visited the parish in 1967.
The Parafia sw Jozefa Oblubienca Najswietszej Maryi Panny continued to grow. A much-needed renovation finally took place in 1972. Seven years later the parish got its own rectory. Before that priests lived in the factory block. In 2000 parishioners celebrated the Great Jubilee with prayer. A clock was installed on the church tower. In 2001 Cardinal Jozef Glemp visited. The church underwent further restorations around the centenary celebration in 2009. Windows were replaced. Central heating was installed. New pews were made. The Stations of the Cross were restored. New lights were put in the presbytery. The rectory was also modernized. Even the outdoor lighting and landscaping got an upgrade. In 2010 the historic 1730 organ was thoroughly conserved and restored. The Parafia sw Jozefa Oblubienca Najswietszej Maryi Panny continues to serve its community in Konstancin-Jeziorna and beyond.
